Spring blossoms

Look at our spring blossoms! First we drew the branch going across the page. We coloured our branches using pastel. We made the blossoms by scrunching up tissue paper and gluing them onto our trees. We then made a little bee or butterfly to go on our picture. We sketched our picture and then drew it on our plastic film. Mrs Bovill then cut them out and we glued them onto our picture.

Acrostic poem

We are learning to write an acrostic poem. We wrote about spring. It can be tricky to spell words. We enjoyed writing something for each letter. We had to think of a word that started with S, P, R, I, N, G and we had to start our sentence with this letter.

Mrs Bovill typed the stories for us and we helped her publish them. We got to choose a colour for the capital letters, the font and we helped choose the size so our page was full. Our poems look awesome!

We are so proud because Mrs Bovill thinks they are fabulous and we wrote great stories. We are proud because we are poets.

“It is tricky to do a poem because it was hard for me to think of the words that started with the right letter.” William.

Root words and their endings

I circled the normal words in blue and the endings in red. This was tricky for me because I am only just learning this and I needed Mrs Bovill's help to do it.

Rhyming strings

We are learning to make a rhyming string. We have read lots of Dr Seuss books and listened for lots of rhyming words. Our favourite story was the ‘Cat in the Hat’. We wrote down some words that rhymed with cat.

"I had to think of words that rhymed. I chose six words - cat, hat, mat, sat, fat and rat. This is the 'at' word family. This is easy peasy for me."

I am learning to use the word ‘said’ in my writing. We are learning about community too, so ‘The Bee Lady’ came to visit us. I am so proud of my story. They look lovely, cute cool and super. It can be tricky to spell words like ‘bee’ and to type the words on the computers. The next step for me might be to try again so I can do it quicker.

I chose a picture and chose the colour. I typed the letter from book on the computer. I like computers and my story.

Ordering numbers 1-10

I am learning to order numbers 1-10. I played a game and I had hang the t-shirts in the right order from smallest to biggest. This is easy for me. It makes me happy when I don’t make mistakes and when it says well done.

"

End sounds

I am learning to use the beginning and end sounds to help me read new words.

"I had to put a peg on the end sound. The end sound is 't'. I chose the cat."

Writing for a purpose

We published our story. Our story was about mum. Mum was our word of the week and it was going to be mothers day. We wrote our story so Mum could read it. We have been learning that we write for a purpose. The purpose of our story was to tell Mum something we like about her.

"My story is about my mum. I wrote about mum because I love mum and she loves me. Writing is tricky for me. Writing is nice. When I write by myself I get a special sticker."

Writing our word of the week

I am learning to use the word of the week in my story writing. I had to use the word see in my story. It is tricky to write words. I can use my word card to help me. I can try and sound out my letters. I am proud when I write my words. I am proud when I find the word I need on my word card. I am proud of my picture I did on Kid Pix.

"I like story writing. I am drawing the shells on the computer. I write with Mrs Bovill. I had to use the word see in my story writing" - William

Before and after numbers

I am learning about numbers that are before and after. It is tricky to know what number comes before and after. It is easy to count up to the number, this helps me know what number comes before. I can use the hundreds board to help me find the numbers before and after.

"Number 2 is before number 3. I am pointing at number 2. This is easy for me" - William.

Using the illustrations to help me read

I am learning to use the illustrations to help me read. Illustrations help me read tricky words. I can look at the pictures and find words that match the sounds of the letters I can hear and see. Pictures give me clues when I am reading. They help me know what the story is about. I can talk about the pictures.

“I am pointing at the picture. I am pointing at the letters” – William.

Using the computers

I like reading on the computers. I can listen to the story while I read the book.
